If you are expecting a summer position but did not receive confirmation until after May 2nd you may be due compensation for a contract violation. If you think this may be you please reach out. Please fill out the Bargaining Priorities Survey* Our hardworking bargaining team have started preparing for the next round of bargaining, and need our input! Announcements - *Executive Council nominations closing TODAY! We need you!* The CGE Executive Council are volunteers who do the day-to-day work of our union. The EC is elected by members and is made up of members: that could be you, your best friend, or any other member. Members should check their email for a link to nominate people (including yourself) for a variety of roles (more info here! <https://www.cge6069.org/executivecouncilstaff/>). No experience needed, just a willingness to step up and support your coworkers. - *Strike fund bill passes* CGE members have unanimously voted in support of a change to bylaws (read our constitution and bylaws here <https://www.cge6069.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/2025-05-09-CGE-Constitut…>) to redirect a minimum of 2.5% of dues into a permanent Strike Fund. - *Fellows' Union campaign heading to a hearing* Following the submission of the Fellows' Union petition, OSU responded by asserting that fellows aren't workers — devaluing fellows' labor that advances the university's prestige and goals. They made the same claim about Graduate Research Assistants in the past and were proved wrong in a hearing with the Oregon Employment Relations Board. Now we need to do it again! The hearing is set for June 23rd and June 24th, and we need fellows, former fellows, or advisors of fellows, to give testimony about fellows' work. If you are able to provide such testimony please reach out! *Upcoming Events* - *Pizza and Zine-Making with the Disability Justice and Mental Health Super Caucus, Tuesday May 26th, 5-7pm, WestM student lounge* Have a meal and bring your ideas to work collaboratively on a mutual aid zine. *Dear CGE Members and Community,* *Quick Little Reminders* - *Bylaws Amendment voting and **CGE Executive Council and AFT National delegate nominations open * After the Spring General Membership Meeting yesterday emails went out to members to vote on an amendment to the CGE Constitution and Bylaws and to nominate folks to the EC or AFT National convention. Voting on our constitution and bylaws and nominating representatives (yourself or people you think would be good!) are important ways to make your voice heard in your union. If you have questions about either of these see the email from Co-VP for Organizing Mireia, or reach out to me. - We need your help to bring your healthcare providers in-network. Announcements - *Changes to on-campus childcare* Beaver Beginnings (an on-campus daycare) is closing due to a contract dispute between OSU and the provider KinderCare. OSU is planning to open a new OSU operated facility in the same location for the Fall, but it will cause a 15% reduction in hours of childcare coverage (this now means that OSU has no on-campus childcare facility that covers a full workday); a tuition increase of 16% for preschool rooms from $950 to $1100 per month (students pay $1100 per month regardless of child's age, which is probably a decrease for infant/toddler rooms); elimination of provided lunches for children; and additional time off and early closures during the summer (closes at noon on Friday during July and August) that would impact OSU graduate student studies and research. The Parent Advisory Committee, a group of working parents on campus, are organizing for childcare on campus that meets workers needs. They have asked the Family Resource Center to hold a town hall to address parents' questions about the new facility, and the FRC has repeatedly refused to do so. In solidarity with Parent Advisory Committee, we are working to organize around this issue. Fellows' Union update, PCC strike is over, and Spring engagement opportunities!

Announcements - *Fellows' Union update* OSU has objected to the Fellows' Union authorization process by claiming that fellows aren't employees. This is not surprising, as they claimed the same thing about graduate research assistants before they were included in the bargaining unit. They were wrong then, as the Employment Relations Board found, and they are wrong now. This is far from over. Fellows' do work that benefits the OSU and deserve the same protections as GTAs/GRAs. - *Congratulations to PCCFCE and PCCFFAP!* After weeks of strike both units of workers at Portland Community College have reached tentative agreements on their contracts! These workers fought hard for what they deserved: they organized, they united on picket line, they held fast in bargaining, and it worked. Before the strike PCC was offering cost-of-living-adjustment of 0.25%, and these folks won 2-3%. Before the strike PCC was refusing any back-pay, after the strike the workers received lump-sum payments in the range of thousands. Announcements - *Fellows' Union authorization cards submitted!* After months of hard work, the card check for formation of the Coalition of Graduate Fellows is done! The authorization cards, signed by 59% of fellows, were submitted this week to the Oregon Employment Relations Board (ERB). With the support of the majority of fellows, this is a strong step towards increasing workplace protections for fellows. In the coming months OSU will have to provide information to the ERB, and the ERB will assess whether Fellows' are workers with shared interests, which would make them eligible to form a union. We are confident ERB will find that is the case, just as they did when GRAs were included in CGE years ago. Keep an eye out for ways to support the campaign through the next steps of the process. Bring any tax forms, a photo ID, and passport or SSN card and volunteers will work with you to file your taxes. Grads have reported a quick and simple process and higher than usual tax returns. Currently, PCC's management is only offering a 0.5% COLA (cost-of-living-adjustment). Considering the fact that inflation is 2.7%, this amounts to a pay cut. These are educators like us, who work hard and deserve a COLA that keeps up with inflation. Announcements - *Good news and further action on Fight for our Future* The Federal Disconnect bill (SB 1507), which would address Oregon's budget crisis through pulling from reserves and closing tax loopholes, has passed the Senate. This brings us closer protecting the state budget without cutting funding for K-12, higher education, and other important services. Thanks is owed to the hard work of many, including members of CGE who have provided testimony about how proposed budget cuts would impact us and our students. However, this isn't over, as the bill now passes to the House. In order to protect public universities like ours, we must show that we care. OSU has not considered Fellows employees so they are not included in our bargaining unit. This means that the benefits Fellows receive, are not guaranteed by a contract and could be lost at any time, including with incoming budget cuts. Fellows deserve a say in their own workplace and protected workplace rights. Union recognition for Fellows is possible, it has happened at other universities, and CGE went through a similar process in 2007 to get Graduate Research Assistants included in the union. But we need you!
